Cognitivism Theory
Under this theory, learning is seen an internal process in which information is integrated or internalized into one’s cognitive or intellectual structure. Many approaches to cognitive learning emerged and the main one was the Gestalt theory whose main theorists were Max Wertheimer (1880 - 1943), Kurt Koffka (1887 - 1941) and Wolfgang Kohler (1887 - 1967), who were all German, among others. The key concept in Gestalt theory is that the nature of the parts is determined by the whole - parts are secondary to the whole. Thus when we process sensory stimuli, we are aware directly of an overall pattern which is grasped as a whole. For example, when listening to music, we perceive a melody rather than individual notes.
