Experiential Learning Theory
Carl Rogers who is an influential proponent of this theory, suggests that experiential learning is “self-initiated learning” as people have a natural inclination to learn; and that they learn when they are fully involved in the learning process. Rogers states “learning is most likely to occur and to last when it is self-initiated” (Office of Learning and Teaching, 2005, p. 9).
From Abraham Maslow's perspective, the drive to learn is intrinsic. The purpose of learning is to bring about self-actualization, and the goals of educators should include this process. Learning contributes to psychological health.
